41 Loose as a goose

“Hunka hunka, hunka hunka
“Burning love, burning love.
“Hunka hunka hunka
“Hunka hunka hunka
“Burning love
“Burning love.”
The Frisco Ninja sang a personal version of “Burning Love” to the tune of “Frere Jacques.”
He still hadn’t ordered coffee. It was as though he’d claimed squatters rights to his chair and table.
“What are you doing, Alain?” Ross Valley asked on their open cell phone line.
“Disguise complete! Sing song all wrong! Scratch scalp! Jiggle leg! Maybe frost cake with word salad!”
“Right,” said Ross. “You’re a Berkeley grad student on – nudge nudge wink wink – leave of absence. I’m sure no one’s in doubt, at the Plip Plop Coffe Shop.”
“J’espere qu’oui! I face front door!”
“Then where’s little Andrew Guss?”
“Baby Drew at four o’clock!” He knew the location of all the players in the cafe.
Someone who was a lover, not a fighter, was taking the measure of him.
